About this tool
WebP can be encoded lossily or losslessly. This quality control requests lossy browser encoding; lowering it may shrink files but can introduce blur, banding or edge artifacts. A browser canvas conversion may also remove metadata and does not retain animation.
If a WebP is already optimized, re-encoding can make it larger. Try reducing dimensions to the size actually needed on the page, then compare results.
How to use it
- Select a WebP image.
- Set quality or reduce output width and height.
- Compare the result and download the optimized WebP.
Frequently asked questions
Can I compress WebP without quality loss?
This tool uses lossy quality encoding. Keep the source file when exact data matters; lossless WebP encoding is not offered here.
Why is my file larger after compression?
The original may already use a more efficient encoding or a different quality target than the browser's canvas encoder.
