About this tool
WebP supports lossy and lossless coding, transparency and animation. This tool creates a still WebP from the first decoded frame exposed by the browser. With the quality control enabled, canvas encoders create a lossy WebP; alpha from PNG or WebP input is retained by the WebP canvas encoder.
A smaller result is common for photographic JPEG input, but is not guaranteed. Logos, flat art or already optimized WebP files may not shrink. Compare the output before replacing the source.
How to use it
- Select a JPG, JPEG, PNG or WebP image.
- Choose a quality level and optionally adjust output dimensions.
- Review the WebP preview and download the .webp file.
Frequently asked questions
Can PNG transparency be kept?
Yes. WebP supports alpha, and the browser canvas conversion preserves transparent pixels for PNG and WebP inputs.
Will every image become smaller?
No. Results vary by image and source encoding; conversion can increase size for some files.
