About this tool
Many browsers cannot display HEIC/HEIF files natively. This route loads a WebAssembly HEIF decoder only when needed, converts the selected image to an in-memory bitmap, then uses the browser WebP encoder. The decoder package is bundled with the site; there is no remote conversion request.
HEIC files can be large, and some contain multiple images, depth data or unsupported variants. The converter handles the image returned by the decoder; if decoding fails, try exporting a compatible still image from the source device. The HEIC decoder adds a significant download on this page only.
How to use it
- Choose a .heic or .heif photo.
- Wait for the local decoder to load and generate a preview.
- Adjust WebP quality, inspect the result and download.
Frequently asked questions
Does my HEIC photo leave my device?
No. The decoder and WebP encoder run in this browser tab. No image upload endpoint is used.
Why might a HEIC file fail?
HEIC is a family of container variants. The selected file may be damaged, unusually large or use a feature not handled by the bundled decoder.
