About this tool

PNG stores pixels losslessly and supports alpha transparency. Converting lossy WebP to PNG does not restore detail discarded in the original WebP; it only stores the decoded pixels without applying another lossy encode.

PNG files can be much larger than WebP. This can be useful for editing or compatibility, but is often a poor choice for delivery when bandwidth matters. Animated WebP is converted as a still image.

How to use it

  1. Choose a WebP image.
  2. Optionally set output dimensions.
  3. Review the PNG and download it.

Frequently asked questions

Does PNG conversion improve image quality?

No. It preserves the pixels the browser decoded but cannot recover information lost in a lossy WebP source.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes, where the source WebP has alpha and the browser decoder exposes it.
